Maxine 0558

BEFORE:

Maxine is a female German Shepherd mix, about 2 years old and 65 lbs., who was rescued from severe neglect. She is currently in an experienced foster home in Woodinville, where she is learning about play, trust, love, and being an inside dog. She never smiled when she first arrived at the shelter - now she's rarely spotted without an ear-to-ear doggy grin!
Despite the neglect she suffered, she is a surprisingly happy, outgoing, sweet dog who is smart, people focused, and very affectionate. She is a great athlete and loves to run, so she would be a perfect companion for an active family. She would not do well being left home alone for long periods.
Because she is very intelligent, focused on people, and food motivated, she is a fast learner and highly trainable. She walks well on leash and gets along well with other dogs, and would love a brother or sister doggie to play with. No cats or small furries in Maxine's new home, please. Her foster mom reports that Maxine is now crate trained (recommended for short durations only, as she is reluctant about going into the crate, though will tolerate it if necessary) and housetrained - no accidents in the house at all! With proper supervision, we expect her housetraining will carry over to her new home.
Maxine’s ideal home would find her living as a full member of the household, with an experienced human pack leader that loves to take her for walks/runs and will continue her obedience training and her acclimation to normal household experiences. The first time she stepped inside, the floor was a very confusing experience! There will be more surprises as she discovers more and more about "real life" with a family. Maxine should do fine with older children, though she does sometimes get excited and jump up on people, which can be frightening for toddlers, so we don't recommend her for homes with children under 5. She is enjoying finally having love and attention from humans, so can be a little "pushy" - but her foster mom is teaching her to sit for attention, and she's doing great!
We will place Maxine with a 30-day trial period, to give you time to work with her and for you to learn to communicate with each other.
Spay, worming, and all age-appropriate shots are always completed before placement, and are included in the adoption fee (suggested minimum $75; more gratefully accepted!) Want to meet the girls in Woodinville? Please fill out the application for preapproval, and we will then connect you with their foster family for a meeting.
