Rocky C0287

Rocky is a miracle cat, a real survivor. His house burned down back in January; the only pet found alive at the time was Ringo (now adopted & renamed Seymour), and as the weeks passed, everyone assumed Rocky had perished in the fire. Somehow, this 10-year-old cat survived for 3 months, through some of the harshest winter conditions we get out here, and managed to find his way to help. He has now been at the shelter for several months, and still believes he will find a new forever home -- even though, as a senior cat, the odds are against him. He likes smoked turkey as a treat, and doesn't seem to show any desire to go back outside now that he is safe, warm, and fed!
Rocky is a siamese/tabby cross, and has the funniest grumpy expression! Don't let his cantankerous appearance fool you, though -- this old guy is a big baby, he loves to be cuddled and will follow his person around whenever possible. He is fine with the other cats at the shelter, and appears tolerant of dogs. Rocky wants a comfy spot in the sun where he can live out his remaining years (5? 8? 10? 15? who knows) knowing he is safe and at home.
He seems to be very healthy; his former owner, who had to move into assisted living when her home burned, says he had a urinary tract infection a couple of years ago, but other than that he has been, and continues to be, a strong and healthy boy. He has a small fatty cyst on one side that does not appear to be increasing in size; no need to do anything about it, it doesn't cause him any discomfort. Unfortunately, Rocky is shy around new people -- this has greatly reduced his chances for adoption, because he tends to hide when strangers come to visit, and only comes out after he has had a little time to get to know the new person from a distance. Anyone willing to give Rocky a chance will be pleasantly surprised (and honored) when he decides he will trust you. (That smoked turkey will help thaw him out faster, hee hee).
He has already been neutered and fully vaccinated, some of the costs of which are included in the adoption donation (suggested minimum during summer Respect your Elders special $20; more gratefully accepted!) Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! If you have found the pet of your dreams in Rocky , Forget-Me-Not will send your new buddy out to you on one of our regular monthly transports to the Seattle area (usually North Bend or Monroe) or North Spokane -- no transport fee for adult cats on one of our regularly scheduled transports!
