Adopted April 2010

8/3/11:

I just wanted to give you a heads-up that we just donated to the shelter; a while back I told you all that in lieu of doing wedding favors at our July 23 wedding, we were going to take that money and donate it to Forget Me Not. (note from FMNAS - What a lovely and thoughtful thing, thank you so much!)

We are so happy with Enzo and Remi. I've also attached a picture of them from our recent river trip :) Thank you for rescuing such great puppies!

3/29/11, from Facebook:

We adopted our two dogs (Enzo and Remi) from Forget Me Not Animal Shelter and they are great! They are definitely a part of our family and were included in our engagement pictures. They're about 8-9 months old in this picture. Thank you so much!

8/17/10:

I usually wait to send an update on the puppies until I have a current pictures of each, but I couldn't pass up the change to send this one of Enzo! Both Enzo's and Remi's ears only stand up when they're really excited. So last night when we came home this is what we saw :) It cracks me up every time they have their ears up. Both pups are still doing great. They're a little over 6 months old now. Mike weighed them about a week ago and Enzo was at 73 lbs and Remi at 68. I'm sure they've grown more this week too. We took them to a local dog park and so many people were shocked they were only 6 months old. Some even thought they were full grown... nope! lol. We are now able to let them stay in the house un-crated at night, YAY! They sleep right outside our bedroom door and so far nothing has been destroyed!

7/27/10:

I'm attaching a few pictures of Enzo and Remi that Mike and I took over the weekend. We went hiking at Mary's Peak in Corvallis, OR. The dogs did great! They've both gotten MUCH better on their walks around other dogs. They still need some more work but they've improved quit a bit. They've also recently learned to "roll-over". I'm keep trying to come up with new tricks/commands because they love to learn.

They are much bigger than their expected 45-65 lbs. Currently they are 5.5 months and Enzo weighs 67.3lbs and Remi weight 63.8 lbs. I'm curious to see how big they get!

Mike and I were just commenting the other day that Enzo and Remi are the best puppies we've ever owned. They are great, thank you!

7/20/10:

Enzo & Remi are doing great! They're getting much better around other dogs on walks but we still have to work on it. Remi loves squeaky tennis balls, while Enzo could care less. He just likes to steal them from Remi.

We also took them to a local creek and they love the water!

They are so much alike but they definitely have very different personalities. We love them so much!

6/16/10:

I'm attaching a picture I took of Enzo and Remi yesterday. They are so adorable! They just turned 4 months old on Saturday, June 12. We weighted them on Tuesday and Enzo weighs 50.4lbs and Remi 49.4lbs! They're still doing really great. Our only issue seems to be on walks when the see other dogs; they lunge/pull on their leashes. On our morning walks I take them out by myself (Mike goes with me on our afternoon walks and takes one of them) and it's really hard to hold them back. They aren't aggressive or anything. But so far no matter what Mike and I have tried, nothing seems to work. They know the command "leave it" very well, but that doesn't work. I've also tried having them "sit" and "stay" until the dog passes us but that doesn't work. Any ideas? They don't pull on their leash during normal walking. If they do, they know "heel" pretty well (which also doesn't work around other dogs...) Other than that, they are perfect! Any suggestions would be great.

Shelter response: "For the walking issue, I'm trying to remember what I saw on "It's Me or the Dog," when she dealt with some dogs that had a similar problem when seeing other dogs (I think they were more aggressive in their intentions, though, rather than just wanting to be playful and friendly).

Seems to me there were two key points - one was to DISTRACT attention, such as when a dog comes into view, to distract with a "sit" while holding a favorite treat where they can see it/focus on it, then giving them the treat when they've been calm for a few seconds. The other was, when they start to pull toward something, immediately turn and walk the other way (don't wait for them or give them the opportunity to go anywhere but with you) - this only works with short leashes, not retractables.

If you can find it, I'd definitely recommend that show, or some Dog Whisperer episodes (though they usually deal with more severe problems). Once the boys understand that pulling on the leash is not acceptable to you, they will learn to stop."

5/26/10:

Enzo and Remi are growing so fast! They are 3.5 months old and already over 40lbs (Remi is 41, Enzo 42)! Almost everyone they meet is surprised they are only 3 months old based on their size. Are we sure they were born in February??

They are very smart, well behaved, and social. They’ve been introduced to many different people and dogs on our daily walk through the park and around town. They also know many commands already such as “sit”, “stay”, “come”, “lay down”, “kennel up”, and we’re working on “leave it” for when they get distracted by various things on walks (like BIRDS haha). They were also leash trained in about a day and they listen so well we are able to let them go outside without leashes in the front yard. They pick up commands very well and are very willing to please us. They are also very motivated by treats.

We are so happy that we adopted them both. They get along very well together and they don’t like to be separated for long. They often cuddle and sleep next to each other. They are pretty mellow most of the time. But they do like to rough-house and play fight-every once in awhile.

We love them so much. Adopting both Enzo and Remi has been one of the best decisions we have made. They love our new house and are very well adjusted. Unfortunately, the weather has not been cooperating and it has been raining constantly so we haven’t been able to put sod in the backyard and let them run around outside. So they’re inside puppies for now. They do get to go on 2 walks most days (at least one a day) to get some exercise and energy out. We can’t wait for some nice weather so we can get some grass in the backyard for them (it’s a giant, soggy, muddy mess right now…). Hopefully in a few weeks they will be able to take advantage of our large backyard.

We're also waiting to see if their ears are going to stand up like a German Shepherd. Every once in awhile they are up but then they fall down. We'll see....

I've also attached some pictures of them for you as well! I will be sure to keep you updated as they grow.

Thank you again for these amazing puppies! They are going to be such great dogs.
